What does VEGAN means?
- To have a lifestyle which means to avoid using and consuming all products that are tested on animals and products with animal origin ingredients.
- Veganism is protected as a human right according to article 9. European convention of human rights.
- Products marked as vegan do not contain animal origin ingredients. It could also be related to bee wax, lanolin, collagen, albumin, carmine, gelatine, cholesterol and many others. Lot of people also believe that „vegan” means – not tested on animals.
Did You know that Your skin care products have animal origin ingredients? When You start paying attention, You will be surprised how many of those ingredients are actually animal origin. Not only in body lotions and skin care products, but also in make up and nail products. Many of traditional compounds like hyaluronic acid, collagen, keratin, elastin, honey, silk and other are derived from animal sources. But don’t panic if You see those compounds on some products with vegan sign. Many of them have their similar derivatives from other sources. Accordingly, these ingredients are not necessarily animal origin. Hyaluronic acid could be obtained from rooster’s crest or by specific bacteria fermentation in lab.
When searching for skin care products, You will always see some common ingredients that could be animal origin like hyaluronic acid, glycerine or stearic acid. If You see INCI (International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient) on product, do not lean on it completely because it will not give You the exact info about ingredients origin. Just to be sure, ask the seller for some valuable confirmation about it. There are many of vegan products that are not marked as vegan at all so it is the best to consult before buying them.
So, vegan body care products contain herbal, mineral and safe synthetic ingredients.
